When Zionists Aren't Welcome

In These Times with Rabbi Ammi Hirsch: Amanda Berman

There are some people who'd have you believe it's impossible to support liberal causes and be a Zionist.

Three years ago, I had to make a choice: would our synagogue continue to push aside our discomfort with the antisemitism expressed by the Women's March leadership in deference to what we considered to be the bigger issues facing our country — or would we refuse to stand alongside those who tolerate antisemitism?

We decided to draw a line, and that's how I met Amanda Berman. A civil rights attorney, Amanda is the founder and executive director of Zioness, where she fights to empower and activate Zionists on the progressive left to stand proudly in social justice spaces as Jews and Zionists.
